Mutual of America Financial Group Announces Six Recipients of the 2022 Community Partnership Award
New Award Created to Honor the Legacy of Frances Hesselbein
NEW YORK, December 29, 2022 -- Mutual of America Financial Group announced the recipients of its 2022 Community Partnership Award, marking the 27th anniversary of the prestigious national competition.
This year, six nonprofit organizations were selected for their outstanding contributions to society in partnership with public, private and other social sector organizations. This includes the winner of a newly created award in honor of Frances R. Hesselbein, a Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient and esteemed retired member of the Company’s Board of Directors, who was part of the Mutual of America family for more than 40 years and passed away on December 11, 2022. Her knowledge, understanding and deep connection to the nonprofit social welfare sector led to the creation of the Mutual of America Community Partnership Award.
“The 2022 award-winning programs have created innovative solutions that effectively address challenging social, emotional and physical issues being faced by many individuals and families in their local communities across the country,“ said Lisa M. Loughry, Mutual of America Foundation Chair.
John R. Greed, Chairman, President and CEO of Mutual of America Financial Group, added, “Creating a new award in Frances Hesselbein’s name was an easy decision. The numerous contributions she made to the betterment of society and humanity during her amazing 107 years will continue to have a profound and positive impact on people’s lives for generations to come.”
2022 Award Recipients
The Thomas J. Moran Award is given to the national award-winning program and includes $100,000 and a documentary video about the program. This year’s recipient, the Patriot PAWS Prison Training Program, was established in 2008 by Patriot PAWS Service Dogs (Rockwall, TX), which is dedicated to training and providing service dogs of the highest quality at no cost to disabled American veterans and others with mobility disabilities.
The Frances R. Hesselbein Award is given to a partnership that is addressing social challenges in more than one community, or which demonstrates the potential to be replicated in other communities. This year’s recipient, the Child Advocate Program, was established in 2004 by The Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights (Chicago, IL), and will receive $50,000.
Four other organizations were named honorable mention recipients for their programs, and each will receive $50,000. They are: Give Items of Value Program (United Way of the Plains, Wichita, KS); Neighborhood Vacancy Initiative (Legal Aid Services of Eastern Missouri, St. Louis, MO); Safer Tomorrows Road Map (Community Violence Intervention Center, Grand Forks, ND); and Work and Life Skills Training Program (Wildflyer Coffee, Minneapolis, MN).
In April 2023, Mutual of America Financial Group will honor these exceptional winners at a special celebration at the Company’s headquarters in New York City. At that time, the Company will premiere the documentary video about the Patriot PAWS Prison Training Program.
