Customer Protection Guarantee
We are pleased to share our Customer Protection Guarantee, designed to give you peace of mind. We value the trust you have placed in us, and we are committed to working with you to ensure your assets remain safe and secure.
Our Guarantee
We guarantee reimbursement for any money lost due to unauthorized activity in your employer-sponsored retirement account. Subject to the terms, conditions, exclusions, and investigation process described below, Mutual of America will reimburse eligible losses caused by unauthorized activity in an employer-sponsored retirement account. To qualify, you must:
- Register your account online with Mutual of America
- Regularly review and keep your contact information up to date
- Report any suspected identity theft or other suspicious activity in your account to Mutual of America
What Our Guarantee Doesn’t Cover:
- Sharing of Credentials: Loss resulting from sharing your credentials or failing to secure them from anyone, including family members or acquaintances.
- Transfers to External Accounts: Distributions sent to an external account beneficially owned by you may not be covered unless Mutual of America determines the transaction resulted from unauthorized account access or other covered fraud.
- Mailed Checks Fraudulently Cashed: Distribution checks that were mailed to your address on file, or to another address at your direction, but fraudulently cashed by someone else.
- Third-Party Security Incidents: Losses caused by third parties outside Mutual of America’s control may not be covered under the Customer Protection Guarantee and will be evaluated based on the circumstances of each case. This includes fraud, malware, or security issues caused by the plan sponsor, financial professional advisors, third-part advisors, third-party administrators (TPA), or anyone else you’ve given access to your account information.
- Loss Due to Unreported Issues: If you have experienced identity theft, a security breach, or a malware-related incident, it is essential that you report the issue to a Mutual of America representative immediately. Failure to do so may compromise your eligibility under our Customer Protection Guarantee.
If you become aware of any suspicious activity on your account, please contact us as soon as possible at 800.468.3785 during our business hours, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. ET.

Personal Data Security Resources
Passkeys provide a faster, more secure way to access your account. You sign in using your device’s built-in authentication, such as a fingerprint, facial recognition, or PIN.
Passkeys can significantly reduce phishing and password-theft risk because they are designed to work only with the legitimate website or app and are not stored in a central password database. They are not stored centrally, reducing exposure to data breaches.
This streamlined login process improves security while making access quicker and more reliable across devices.
Mutual of America offers a modernized online account registration experience supported by our identity verification program. This approach improves verification success rates—especially for individuals with limited credit history—while strengthening fraud protection through real-time matching technology.
For Assistance, call our Contact Center at 800.468.3785, Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. ET.

Register Your Online Account Before Someone Else Does
Your retirement account is one of your most valuable assets, and securing it online is one of the smartest ways to protect it.

Don’t Let Scammers Fund Their Retirement with Your Money.
Fraudsters are skilled at pretending to be someone you trust—even Mutual of America. They may call, claim your account is at risk and try to scare you into sharing information. Don’t let them.
Here’s how to outsmart scam calls:
We’ll always identify ourselves clearly.
We won’t ask for your password or full SSN.
We’ll never pressure you to move your money or give remote access.
Caller ID can be spoofed. Hang up and call us back directly if you’re unsure.
Think Before You Tap: Outsmart Fake Texts
Scammers know you trust quick text alerts, so they send fake SMS messages that look like they could be from a trusted business. These texts may claim there’s suspicious activity on your account or ask you to click a link to “verify” information.
IMPORTANT!
Stay alert. Think before you tap. Protect your retirement savings from text message fraud.
Fake emails can look surprisingly real. Hackers use logos, fake domain names and urgent language to trick you into clicking dangerous links or giving up your personal information.
Stay safe by remembering the following:
- We’ll never email asking for your User ID or password.
- Don’t click links. Log in directly at mutualofamerica.com.
- Watch for subtle misspellings in the sender’s address.
Think before you click. Protect your retirement savings from phishing scams.
Don’t Let Scammers Fund Their Retirement with Your Money.
Cybercriminals use calls, emails and fake investments to get your info, but your best defense is strong habits.
Turn on multifactor authentication (MFA): MFA adds an important layer of protection and helps reduce the risk of unauthorized access.
Set up your online account: Unregistered accounts are easy targets for identity fraud.
Know the signs: We’ll never ask for your password or pressure you to transfer money.
Hang up, log off, double-check: Caller ID and email addresses can be faked. Pause and verify.
If you become aware of any suspicious activity on your account, please contact us as soon as possible at 800.468.3785 during our business hours, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. ET.
